Mission and Values

Advancing Access to Supportive Cancer Care, Social Impact Theatre, and Economic Opportunity

Our Mission

We believe that everyone deserves access to systems and solutions that expand supportive care for serious illnesses like cancer, the transformative power of live theatre, and building pathways to economic opportunity.

How We Work

The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation funds programs throughout the United States. Guided by our commitment to collaboration, we identify and choose partners who can bring their expertise and knowledge to our focus areas. We actively choose organizational partners who are aligned with the priorities in each of our focus areas.

With the exception of the annual Social Impact Theatre Grant cycle — which typically opens for applications in May — we do not accept unsolicited proposals. We take this approach to respect the time of nonprofit organizations and ensure we only request proposals when there’s a strong alignment and clear opportunity for partnership.

Our Focus Areas

  • Supportive Care for Serious Illnesses — Supportive Care is a comprehensive, whole-person approach that ensures people with cancer or other serious illnesses and their caregivers receive essential support at diagnosis and before, during, and after treatment.
  • Social Impact Theatre — We believe in the power of live theatre to spark dialogue, bring different viewpoints together on challenging subjects, and provide a lens to process the critical issues of contemporary society. We support theatres that are innovating how they engage with their audiences and are committed to reaching new audiences. We also support organizations working to strengthen the theatre ecosystem across the United States.
  • Economic Opportunity — We advance solutions that expand access to economic opportunity through a focus on workforce development and career and technical education programs.

Our Guiding Values
Collaboration

We see our grantees as partners and strive to ensure all the strengths and assets available are brought to bear for the greater good so that innovation flourishes, the outcomes are stronger, and the impact ripples.

Optimism

Our sense of optimism about what is possible encourages us to take chances on good ideas–to try something and even fail–as this is often the best way to learn and create change.

Access & Opportunity

We believe everyone should have meaningful opportunities to lead healthy and economically stable lives. We recognize that people and communities have different needs, so we support solutions that improve access to resources, services, and support.
