Focus Area

Economic Opportunity

We advance solutions that expand equitable access to economic opportunity through a focus on workforce development programs and career technical education.

Priority Area: CareerWork$®

We invest in CareerWork$, a national workforce development nonprofit with the mission of connecting young adults from under-resourced communities to stable, lasting careers through free training. CareerWork$ creates career opportunities. It provides training and access for people from low-income communities to entry-level positions with career growth potential in banking and healthcare, connecting candidates who want stable, lasting careers with employers who are looking for their talent, and the skills and training to succeed. CareerWork$ also provides community organizations with curricula to offer virtual or in-person training for job seekers in underserved communities.

Priority Area: Career and Technical Education and Career Connected Learning

We support and partner with innovative programs that help students move from high school to a career. We also support career readiness and advance career-connected learning. Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students with rigorous, industry-specific training that results in a clear pathway to living wage careers. We also aspire to partner with CTE programs and Partnership for LA Schools to adapt CareerWork$ training programs and job readiness curriculum for high school students looking for a path from high school to a career.

CareerWork$ Graduate Spotlight

Fiorella Reyes came to the United States as an immigrant to pursue a career in the financial services industry. She was initially nervous to apply due to a potential language barrier hindering her success, as she learned English later in life. However, her ability to speak multiple languages has been an important asset that has helped lead her to be a Small Business Banker at Wells Fargo.

CareerWork$® programs create career opportunities. It provides training and access for young adults from under-resourced communities to entry-level positions with career growth potential in banking and healthcare, connecting candidates who want stable, lasting careers with employers who are looking for their talent, and the skills and training to succeed. CareerWork$® programs include:

BankWork$

BankWork$® started in Los Angeles in 2006 in partnership with JVS SoCal with one class, a few bank partners, and 10 graduates. Since then, our program has expanded to include more than 80 banks, 13 cities, and has helped launch over 3,600+ careers in banking.

CareerWork$ Medical

CareerWork$ Medical® connects candidates with roles in non-clinical healthcare, creating opportunities for advancement and promotion. Over eight weeks, young adults prepare for non-clinical roles that can launch careers in healthcare, such as customer service representative, patient service coordinator, family support specialist, and medical insurance biller.

CareerWork$® Ready provides community organizations with curricula to offer virtual or in-person training for job seekers in underserved communities. CareerWork$ Ready focuses on hard skills, such as resume writing and interview practice, and the people and communication skills needed to land and keep a job. Job coaches support students through the process step by step.
