The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation Announces Grant Opportunity to Support Social Impact Theatre

SEATTLE – The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation today launches its first cycle of theatre grants for 2016. Initiated last year, the Foundation’s new theatre enrichment grant program provides production-specific support of innovative shows that grapple with social issues and engage new audiences, with preference given to musical theatre.

“The Foundation seeks to partner with theatres that take risks and present challenging work to their audiences, ultimately sparking conversations in their communities,” said Sheri Biller, Foundation President. “This is the first time we have issued a joint grant opportunity for both Los Angeles County and Washington state, regions where we primarily focus our resources. Theatre companies in both places are presenting exemplary social impact productions on their stages, and we are excited to support their efforts.”

This announcement coincides with the release of an Initial Application, which is due on March 11. Interested organizations can join the Foundation via @BillerFamFdtn for an interactive Twitter Q&A on March 1 from 3-4 p.m.

Organizations from Los Angeles County and Washington state with 501(c)(3) status and at least two years of operating history are eligible to apply. Funds can cover artistic, production, and overhead staff expenses for one production to occur between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017. Theatre enrichment grant opportunities are now offered in two cycles each year; organizations may apply to both cycles, but can only receive one grant in the calendar year.
